Guild Bekkan

I met the owner, Nakajima, a long time ago when he was working at a bookstore in Ebisu.

That bookstore is a memorable place for me, and the memories of my frequent visits there are still vividly remembered in the depths of my heart.

My book, "30 themes 10 recipes," which is no longer available, was also born in that bookstore.

When my daughter was in my womb, I wrote down 300 recipes in Kumamoto and sent them to Ebisu.

The completed 30-color book was displayed as the first exhibit in the newly opened gallery space, and it was a truly joyous sight to see all those colorful covers lined up in the new store.

A short time after that, my daughter was born safely into this world, and perhaps because of that, the 30 Colors book feels like a part of me, and it has become one of my most treasured works.

Then, many years after I had heard that Nakajima had quit his job at the bookstore, moved to Nemuro, and started a secondhand goods shop, I heard through the grapevine that he was setting up shop in Matsumoto.

Matsumoto is one of my favorite cities that I have visited.

A town where precious people live and hold many warm memories.

I was excited just thinking about meeting Nakajima again in Matsumoto, and what kind of items he would choose and what kind of store he would set up.

Guild Bekkan was born in the middle of a familiar street.

It seems the Nemuro store is a guild and the Matsumoto store is its annex.

The building's impressive exterior features pure white walls, doors fitted with thin, cross-shaped glass panes, and latticed wooden window frames.

Pressing the small, well-worn knob, one enters a space with white walls and a mortar floor, lined with antique items carefully selected by Nakajima, as well as a few modern pieces.

This February, the items that touched Nakajima's heart and were brought from Europe to Japan by his own hands will be on display at taishoji.

There are many items that are dignified and refreshing, yet also exude just the right amount of ruggedness and subtle beauty.

Please come visit when the plum blossoms are in bloom.

Along with the guild, we hope you will also enjoy an order session for the "Inukai Glasses Frames" and coffee by Ooya Minoru.
